How to (sorta reliably) spot AI

Forewarning, do not trust ai detectors, at least not completely. They are prone to errors. https://bsky.app/profile/caffeinerabbit.bsky.social/post/3mny35mc5wk2y

It's mostly a vibe check I can't explain, but there are things that stick subconsciously. I'll use examples of known ai fart to try my best to illustrate what just looks ai.

Excessive bloom, sharp colors or visual effects that make the art look overblown, if you can clearly see every specks of dust it's probably ai https://www.pokebeach.com/news/2024/06/2570-20240114102348-dad1d5cf-23ac-458e-bd81-bbf6568cf3a7.jpg

Inconsistent artstyle as if multiple artists worked on the drawing (also notice how this one's overblown) https://www.pokebeach.com/news/2024/06/2583-20240114132735-107e8bae-3019-4ca2-9710-7ca4b8f5d951.jpg

The art is strangely well-drawn despite obvious rookie mistakes like bad perspective (also notice how this one's overblown) https://www.pokebeach.com/news/2024/06/2572-20240114103405-601c8d56-6047-483f-82be-37f4ab9c3fc6-1.jpg

While checking this journal again, it's been made apparent to me that the links lead to 1011 errors, the fix is to right click the continue button on the furaffinity warning screen, copy the url and then paste it to avoid the issue. Anyway, here's the webpage where those images came from, they are shown in the same order as the 3 above examples: https://www.pokebeach.com/2024/06/2024-pokemon-tcg-illustrator-contest-under-fire-for-apparent-ai-entries

The phonk/trap nation-ass background in the artwork, you know what I'm talking about (also notice how this one's overblown) https://hypebeast.com/2024/6/pokemon-trading-card-ai-disqualification Example of phonk background if you have genuinely no idea (NOT AI!): https://wallpapersafari.com/w/D9LvKs https://wallpapercave.com/trap-nation-wallpapers

If it looks or feels 'soulless' it's probably ai. It still can't get emotions right.

The "piss filter"

This is common in ai art, so it's worth mentioning until they inevitably fix it, is that background elements tend to be wobbly, distorted or smeared and unrecognizable Don't look outside, a game on Steam.

Things that ARE NOT exclusive to ai:

Also, ask the artist if they have the project files or on what they made the drawing. Ai dweebs have never touched a drawing program in their lives, they don't know what gimp is, so they'll either say photoshop (easily disprovable by looking at the exif data because it's systematically there on exported images, thanks adobe!) or they struggle to come up with anything

This train of thought doesn't work very well for realistic stuff because AI has gotten so good at realism, but it still sucks at depicting real art.
