"Latex" Polymers tier list
This was a video idea brewing in my mind and I decided to preemptively sort everything out before ever starting the videio in case I firget anything.
Note: I will be using tiermaker.com in the video, here it's text only.
Without further ado...
The polymers tier list
Rubber
My name is literally Rubbereon, so you might think I'm the biggest fan of rubber, well no.
I love its composition in art, but reality is a lot more boring. For starters it's not that shiny/glossy and there are polymers on this list that blow it out of the ballpark in that regard, but also the texture is a bit rough.
Have you touched tyres, bike handles, laptop feet or rubberbands? Yeah no comment, you know exactly where I'm getting at. it's like the driest most rough material on the list. Even worse, have you ever smelled anything made of rubber? they're prone to stink like shit especially under intense heat. Small anecdote, but I had a fairly bad experience with a black rubberband because while using it it left black marks on my skin, so I had to wash my hands afterwards, imagine that happening all over your body while wearing a rubber suit.
If somehow you don't have access to any examples above, get an eraser for cheap. They're sometimes called 'rubber' in some languages (and by this dude who looks like a white eraser) and I do understand why because they have a similar texture, but I'll say that I doubt they're made of actual rubber.
Maybe it can be processed differently for different results I dunno, but based on what I personally know, I generally wouldn't buy anything made of rubber at any high prices.
D
Leather
It destructs itself very quickly with use and then you gotta replace it, stuff gets expensive! Anything I ever owned made of leather was the same story, including sofas, desk chairs and clothes, it dies within two years.
But I'll give it this much, it's very soft and smooth to the touch, it's very comfortable, and I can get behind why leather is popular in the bdsm scene.
You can and should buy leather if it's either cheap or on sale, that's my recommendation, it's otherwise inadvisable pretty much.
B
Silicon
Just like how I described what rubber feels like, I do have some experience with sillicon before bying any suits, surprinsly! I got a sillicon thermal patch/pad for something and the thing is it was sort of sticky (as in it clings to my skin) which is something I was looking for and it's glossy. That just about convinced me that Sillicon makes for a great gimpsuit.
Only [small] downside is that it does have a smell, but it's far less pronounced than rubber from experience thankfully.
It is also the closest to what I liken "latex" to in furry art, both visually and in how it feels, meanwhile rubber is very disappointing and is nothing like "furry latex". Seriously I love sillicon!
ETA 03.11.2026: I've never worn a full silicon set before, so it's worth noting that putting furrjoi's fullset on and off is extremely difficult under normal circumstances (note that I haven't had that problem with G-pawz, but it's only a glove and a footpaw, so it's a different matter already) and somewhat painful due to my body hair (I'm shaving it off next time befoer I'm doing this!) until I doused it in water, but then I had zero adhesion to ceramic surfaces like the literal bathroom floor I did this in, but at least there were carpets to stand on. Leather is easier to put on and off and doesn't put me at risk (the chestplate covers my face and leaves me at risk of suffocation when I'm putting it on, "risk" doesn't mean I'll ever let it happen, but it's still a danger that exists nonetheless). The actual guide I got with the suit recommended water based lubricant which I obviously didn't have because I'm a classic gooner who masturbates dry, the only type of lubricant I have is liquid soap which I bet is not good for the suit, hell it's not good for my skin if I let it dry and flake. The suit's also SOOO heavy (never expected that to be honest) that I think it marked itself permanently with a "scar" that I only noticed after taking it out of the plastic back for a second session, I mean it's not damaged, but it's still a visible defect and I doubt it's furrjoi's fault when the suit came in with foam thingies to kind of "separate" the suit so it doesn't bend over itself. I obviously tossed them away, but even then I have no idea how the suit was configured inside its package. This has kind of dropped the score a little from a S, but I still find it a whole lot more enjoyable to wear than rubber or vinyl, also given leather's tendency to just die from use, yeeeeeaaaah...
A
Vinyl
Vinyl can be found in raincoats and sanitary gloves.
Vinyl has a really bad habit of getting folds all over itself when you move giving you this "trash bag" look if it's black. I'll also add that the texture is sort of dry (not nearly as much as rubber so that's a positive), somewhat sticky too, but not in a particularly nice way imo, however it does feel like soft plastic and it is glossy so it's above rubber in "how good" it feels to wear.It kind of wins in that aspect plus it'd be more comfortable, but considering it makes you look like a trash bag with how wrinkly it gets it's so not worth it for a gimp suit, don't buy Vinyl.
C
PVC
It's got the same problem as Vinyl and makes you look like a walking trash bag too, but I would rank it higher for 2 reasons: The texture is better, it feels just as dry, but it's also smooth and the other reason is if you want something 'specific' PVC will absolutely meet your demands.
I've had daydreams where I imagined wearing transparent clothes and then filling them, usually with something I don't wanna talk about but sometimes with water or air and that's where PVC shines it's very inflatable because that's its intended usecase, so you could have an inflatable underwear.
Unless you wanna get a bit more freaky with your fantasies, I'd just tell you to buy a pooltoy instead, they're also made in PVC, so are beach balls.
B
Plastic
I vaguely know that the word "plastic" is an umbrella term just like "latex" and "polymer" are here. I dunno if they have a specific name, but by 'plastic' I mean something that is refined from oil and found in toys, slides, legos, that sort of plastic, let me know if their polymers have a more specific name. Plastic is a sturdy and glossy material found in legos, some gadgets I got from mcdonalds or a book I dunno and some types of watering cans are made from plastic instead of tin or aluminium, that's it.
I haven't seen anybody make a gimp suit out of this material (probably because it would just be an armor at this point lol), but I figured I'd mention it because it's relevant and I like plastic. The texture is somewhat similar to PVC and Vinyl, it's like smooth vinyl whereas vinyl itself is sticky.
My overall judgement is it would be nice to have (for example it could work with dildos instead of rubber), but it won't replace the better polymers in the list.

Footnotes
I call several things "dry" in this post because I don't know if there is a better term to describe what I'm talking about, obviously silicon and leather aren't suddenly "wet" because I didn't call them "dry", it's just that it feels like as soon as I touch some textures the moisture on my hand gets absorbed (rubber) or the material feels like it repels humidity as if they were hydrophobic (pvc, vinyl), just wanted to clarify that when I say that something is or feels dry I don't mean it literally is dry, but that it has a different feel compared to other materials.
