my mom said something so racist in the car on our way home
So on our ways home, my mom, almost a grandma by now I should add, said that when she visited the US a long time ago, she wanted to go to the grave of Martin Luther King and around the area it was apparently full to the brim with black people and she kept telling me they were stinky and stuff like that, and apparently her boyfriend back then just said it was too far away to get to by foot, so they went the other direction. That's the gist of it I didn't hear the full story and have no idea if they managed to visit his grave.
Because I don't look like this:
I didn't say anything because it wasn't worth making a scene about it, but still it's shocking to hear something like that especially since she obviously hates the racist Trump.
One detail to note is that she did reiterate several times that it's because they were sweaty (I assume it was in summer) and not due to hygiene which is a racist stereotype especially towards indian people. So, I guess in her mind due to the way she was saying it it wasn't racist? I don't even know why she brought up the subject, like why did she feel the need to talk about black people all of a sudden?
